Marketing and Communications Manager

Job Description

 

Duties of the Communications Manager include but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the AMHA Director of Hockey Operations
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting
  • Attend meetings (Executive, Stream, Coordinators and AMHA Office) when required
  • Submits written reports to the AMHA Director of Hockey Operations and Executive, when required
  • Responsible for both internal and external communications
    • Communication of any Hockey Alberta updates to membership
  • To provide assistance to Director of Hockey Operations, Executive Committee, Stream Directors and/or Coordinators requiring communication mediums
  • Manage and update AMHA website
  • Manage Social Media communication (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Manage and submit monthly newsletter which is distributed to AMHA members by the 15th of each month
  • Ensure consistency in presentation, standardization and imagery of AMHA communication
  • Assist with the organizing and hosting of the Annual General Meeting, in conjunction with the AMHA Office
  • Assist the Executive Committee, Stream Directors and/or Coordinators with securing volunteers for the various events throughout the season
  • Support with the organization and management of all meetings put forth by AMHA
  • Update AMHA online store and transactions
  • Support for AMHA Team Managers with regards to communications and processes that are to be followed
  • Shall conduct correspondence on behalf of AMHA via email and various forms of Social Media
  • To attend AMHA events for the purposes of taking photographs to post on Social Media
  • Maintain and create sponsorship partnerships and opportunities for the AMHA association and teams
  • Manage associations apparel guidelines and policies
  • Assist the tournament committee with marketing, website and social media consistency

 

Marketing and Communications Manager

Full-time position

Airdrie Minor Hockey Association (AMHA), is a non-profit organization, that was established in 1987. Today, AMHA has more than 1600 female and male youth hockey players and is one of the largest minor hockey associations in Alberta.

AMHA hosts a robust hockey program for athletes ages 5 to 18 years old and development programs for players at all stages.

Reporting to the Director of Hockey Operations, and as part of the AMHA office staff, this person will be responsible for the overall marketing, communications and promoting of AMHA, including generation of partner/sponsor relationships, directing online and print communications and creating the association’s social media footprint.

 

Accountabilities

MARKETING  

  • Help to devise the AMHA’s branding strategy  
  • Participates in the associations annual budgeting process  
  • Creates an annual Marketing Plan
  • Oversees the AMHA’s social media platforms to ensure the consistent promotion of AMHA’s programs  
  • Monitors all of the association’s surveying and data gathering efforts to advise on programming

SPONSORSHIP  

  • Works with the Director of Hockey Operations to prospect corporate partners for AMHA
  • Solicits program sponsorship across the City of Airdrie and Southern/Central Alberta
  • Meets annual sponsorship revenue targets  
  • Serves as the first point of contact for organizations interested in sponsorship

COMMUNICATIONS  

  • Create and implement branding guidelines and apparel policies for AMHA
  • Acts as the first point of contact for all media inquiries  
  • Develops media releases and pitches AMHA content to local outlets  
  • Edits content generated by the AMHA office staff and Executive Committee
  • Works with the Director of Hockey Operations to build AMHA video content  
  • Establishes set communication templates for AMHA and its programs  
  • Works with AMHA Director of Hockey Operations, Committees, Directors and Coordinators across the organization to ensure key messaging is being captured and delivered to the appropriate audiences
  • Maintain adequate stakeholder management throughout associations communication

SPECIAL EVENTS  

  • Ensures AMHA events are planned and executed to a high standard  
  • Works with third parties on the hosting and delivery of events  
  • Ensures AMHA is adequately represented at community events  

VOLUNTEER STAFF  

  • Manages and mentors AMHA volunteers
  • Ensures that volunteers are properly trained and supervised during events

 

Competencies & Requirements  

  • Applicants should possess a minimum 2 years’ experience in sports marketing/communications
  • 3+ years’ experience with corporate sponsorships (preferably in sports)   
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Ability to utilize web content management, social media management, video editing and graphic design software  
  • Budgeting - experience building and managing budgets  
  • Experience in developing surveys and analyzing results  
  • Strong strategic thinking skills required  
  • Ability to work under pressure, adhering to tight deadlines required  
  • Proficiency with Google Docs, Gmail, and Microsoft Office
  • Must be an excellent team player, supporting all AMHA programs/needs  
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Exhibits professionalism as a representative of AMHA  
  • Strong analytical skills  
  • Knowledge of the Alberta sports marketing/sponsorship environment is considered an asset  
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills are pivotal to establishing and maintaining harmonious internal & external relationships  
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing marketing and communications  
  • Non-traditional and extended hours of work required
  • Hockey knowledge and background would be an asset
  • Knowledge of nonprofit boards and governance would be viewed as an asset
